Earlier, CSKA announced that Vorobyov would lead the team from the 2024/25 season, replacing Sergei Fedorov, under whose leadership the team won the Gagarin Cup twice. Fedorov’s deal with the club expires on April 30, 2024.
Kojevnikov stressed that Ilya Vorobyov had earned his place and deserved to be supported. He believes that Vorobyov is capable of successfully leading CSKA, despite its status as a big club. Kozhevnikov also expressed confidence that Sergei Fedorov, who will rest after three years of intense work and achievements, will find his place in another club.
Ilya Vorobyov previously won the Gagarin Cup as senior and head coach of Metallurg Magnitogorsk, and also managed the Russian national team and SKA Saint Petersburg. CSKA finished the current season in sixth place in the KHL regular season and was defeated by Lokomotiv in the first round of the playoffs with a score of 1-4.
