Former Traktor hockey player Vadim Berdnikov believes that the Chelyabinsk club can fight for victory in the Gagarin Cup this season.
In the second round of the Fonbet KHL Championship playoffs “Tractor” defeated Dynamo Moscow with a score of 4-0. In the semifinals of the Gagarin Cup, the Chelyabinsk team will face the winner of the Avangard series – Lokomotiv.
— Do you follow the results of your native Traktor in the playoffs? The team reached the semi-finals of the Gagarin Cup.
— First of all, I would like to congratulate the city and the supporters. Everyone knows that Chelyabinsk fans are special. The city has been waiting for such results from Traktor for a long time. The management entrusted the team (coach) Alexey Borisovich Zavarukhin and therefore made the right decision. I have known him for a long time – we communicate closely and are friends. I know what kind of person and specialist he is. Zavarukhin played under many coaches, both from the old team and foreigners, and he himself managed to work in different clubs. He proves that he is ready to not only become a head coach, but also reach the top. The series with Salavat Yulaev was good, and with Dynamo it was just great. No one expected that it would be possible to face the score 4-0.
— Can Traktor compete for the Gagarin Cup?
– Of course it’s possible. The team is on the move and God grant that there are no injuries, that all players stay in the zone and work as one engine. I think winning the Cup is realistic. But everything must be done in stages: you have taken two steps and you must take the third, then talk about the fourth. The playoffs are a lottery that anyone can win. It’s no longer random teams that make it to the semi-finals,” Berdnikov said, as quoted by RB Sport.
