Athletistic / Hockey. The management of Avangard decided to appoint Sergei Zvyagin as head coach of the Omsk team. The press service of the “hawks” reports this.
Zvyagin was appointed interim head coach from the second round of the 2024 Gagarin Cup with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv. This happened after the dismissal of Mikhail Kravets, under whose leadership the Omsk team lost to the railway workers in two home matches of the series (1:2 in overtime and 0:7).
Under Zvyagin, Avangard managed to turn the tide of the series. As a result, Lokomotiv nevertheless defeated the Omsk team, but only after seven matches (4-3 in the series).
Note that according to the results of the regular season of the KHL season 2023/2024, Avangard took second place in the Eastern Conference. The team won its only Gagarin Cup in 2021.
