General manager “Avant-garde » Anton Kurianov said that nothing will fundamentally change in the team’s preparation after the extension of the season deadline in the KHL.
At the end of March, the KHL Board of Directors approved new deadlines for the Fonbet KHL Championship and the OLIMPBET MHL Championship starting from the 2024/2025 season. The new deadline is May 31. From now on, the season ends no later than April 30.
— How will our hockey and Avangard’s preparation change given that the end of the championship will be delayed by a month? Will the preseason tournament continue?
— Nothing fundamentally changes, our training camp starts on August 1st. Starting August 11, the team will be in Moscow, play a number of exhibition matches, and then we will return to Omsk, where a home tournament will be held. Approximately from 21 to 25 (August), Kuryanov said at a press conference.
Avangard sporting director Evgeniy Zabuga explained how the club would negotiate contracts with foreign players.
— How are you going to negotiate with the legionnaires? If (the season) lasts until May 31 and you reach the final, the foreign players are called up to the World Cup.
— The legal provisions of the KHL do not allow such clauses to be stipulated separately in contracts. Of course, that won’t happen. As for the foreign players we will have, we will have a separate conversation with each of them. Everyone should fully understand that May is a defining month for us. We will try to resolve this problem “on the shore”. We won’t have such problems with Reed Boucher, as we initially said such a scenario was possible. “This will be discussed separately with the other two legionnaires as the main conditions of our cooperation,” Zabuga told a news conference.
