Russian goaltender for the National Hockey League club “Toronto” Ilia Samsonov nominated for the Bill Masterton Trophy, reports The Hockey News.
This is an award given annually to an NHL hockey player who “has demonstrated excellence in sportsmanship and dedication to the game of hockey.” The winner is determined by members of the Hockey Journalists Association based on the results of the regular season.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony in June. One player from each of the 32 NHL teams is eligible for the award.
In the current season, Samsonov was selected for the waiver draft, but returned to Toronto’s base and earned his number one spot.
