Vice President of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Valery Kamensky told that the Metallurg striker Maxim Mukhametov clumsily used a forceful technique against Avtomobilist striker Sergei Shirokov, for which he was punished with a five-minute penalty.
On Friday, Avtomobilist defeated Metallurg on the road in the second match of the Gagarin Cup semi-finals (4:2). Midway through the second period, Mukhametov was sent off for five minutes for elbowing Avtomobilist captain Shirokov in the head.
“It’s the playoffs, there’s a hockey battle going on here. ” But a hockey player must always remember that there are rules that cannot be broken. Mukhametov played roughly and received a five-minute penalty for it. I don’t think there was any intention, I just inappropriately used a forceful technique, for which I was punished,” Kamensky told .
The score in the best-of-five series was tied 1-1. The next match will take place in Yekaterinburg on April 7.
