Athletistic/Hockey. Honored coach of Russia Vladimir Krikunov expressed his opinion on the future of 40-year-old Spartak striker Ilya Kovalchuk, believing that he should end his playing career. Previously, information appeared in the media about a possible transfer of Kovalchuk to the post of general director of Spartak.

“I believe that he has already proven all his abilities and that he can calmly move towards the position of general manager without worrying, as they say. It’s important to finish when you can still contribute and not wait to be kicked out. This year he has demonstrated his abilities and, in my opinion, it is time to retire from his playing career. Moreover, he already has experience as a general director, which he gained while working in the Russian national team, albeit for a long time,” Krikunov noted in an interview with a correspondent of the “Championship”.

During the regular season of the Kontinental Hockey League, Kovalchuk played 20 matches in which he scored four goals and gave the same number of assists, with a utility indicator of “-7”. In the playoffs, Ilya played five matches, but failed to score points.
