Ovechkin now has eighteen seasons in which he has scored at least 30 goals, a new NHL record. Ovechkin surpassed Canadian Mike Gartner, who had a similar 17 seasons.

Ovechkin also answered the question of why he began to show high performances in the second half of the season.
– I don’t know. I just play my game and try to take risks, find rebounds, try to create chances for my teammates. Now we all know how important it is to score points. It’s a pretty fun time of year,” he added.
Ovechkin increased his number of goals in regular NHL championships to 852 and reduced the gap with Canadian Wayne Gretzky’s sniper record (894) to 42 goals.
