Athletistic/Hockey. The Slovak Hockey Federation has decided not to include KHL players in the national team for the World Championship in the Czech Republic.

“At the meeting of the executive committee, the question of the possibility of participation of KHL hockey players as part of our national team in the next World Championship was discussed. The members of the executive committee emphasized that any Slovak hockey player who meets the necessary criteria has the right to represent the country on the international stage. However, given that some current Slovak players playing in the KHL, for various reasons, whether health or personal circumstances, cannot be available to participate in our national team, it has been decided not to invite them to the team.

The Executive Committee is confident that the coaches will be able to form a strong team, capable of delighting the fans with their performances at the World Championships in May in the Czech Republic. This will help overcome divisions within society and unite the nation, as has happened in the past,” the statement said.

This season, nine Slovak hockey players played in the KHL, including goalies Patrik Rybar (Spartak) and Adam Guska (Torpedo), defensemen Michal Czajkovsky (Spartak) and Martin Gernat (Lokomotiv), as well as forwards Adam Liszka ( “Severstal”). , Michal Krystof (“Sochi”) and Tomasz Jurcho (“Avangard”).

The 2024 Ice Hockey World Championship will take place from May 10 to 26 in Prague and Ostrava. Last year, Team Canada won the World Championship.
