President of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Alexey Morozov said the league, along with the majority of players and fans, were happy with the crossover playoff format.
The 2023/24 season is the first in the history of the KHL in which teams from different conferences can meet in the second round.
— This year, the cross-playoff format was introduced for the first time. How did he even show up?
— We liked it, we receive reviews and collect feedback from players and fans. This format was the most appreciated, I spoke with the Spartak players and they said that it was a completely different feeling when you arrive in a city where you have only been once during the season. The supporters welcome us differently, creating excitement in the stands.
We saw a confrontation between the West and the East in the second round; three Eastern teams reached the semifinals. This adds intrigue and increases fan interest in such matches. We are waiting for the final, it will be a confrontation between the West and the East. I think we will continue to develop this direction. Thanks to the playoff matches, new fundamental confrontations arise between the clubs, derbies, which will be interesting in the next regular season,” Morozov was quoted as saying by the KHL press service.
