Honored Russian coach Vladimir Krikunov believes the whole country supports the Russian forward of the Washington Capitals Alexandra Ovechkina who aims to break Wayne Gretzky’s record.
Ovechkin scored 852 goals in regular NHL championships during his career, 42 goals behind Gretzky’s sniper record (894).
“I would like Sasha Ovechkin to go to the NHL playoffs with his team and beat Wayne Gretzky in two years, break his record and set his own. I think the whole country supports that. We will also encourage and support Sasha,” Krikunov said as quoted by “Championship”.
Washington is in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 87 points in 80 games.
