Defender “Motorist” Nick Ebert said the team can be proud of the result this season, since many considered it an underdog in the KHL playoff series against Ak Bars Kazan and SKA St. Petersburg.
In the 2023/24 season, Avtomobilist defeated Ak Bars in five matches in the first round of the Gagarin Cup, then won over SKA – 4-1. In the semifinals of the playoffs, Nikolai Zavarukhin’s team lost to Metallurg Magnitogorsk – 3-4.
“It’s very hard to lose like that.” I’m proud of all the guys on the team, we’ve come a long way. But that’s hockey, someone wins and someone loses. We have to pay tribute to the opponent: they have a young and fast team.
— In any case, can the playoffs be considered successful for your team?
– Of course, they didn’t believe in us from the first round and made fun of the fact that Avtomobilist could beat Ak Bars. And we beat this opponent in five matches. The same thing happened in the series against SKA, and they were very strong teams. Metallurg was one of the best in the KHL at the end of the regular season, and we only lost to them in the seventh game. We have something to be proud of, even if it hurts now because we could have played in the final.
— Your contract with the club is coming to an end. Are you going to negotiate?
— We will start communicating with the club soon, I hope. “I would like to stay at Avtomobilist,” Ebert told RB Sport.
