Three-time world champion Alexei Tereshchenko believes Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov deserves to receive the NHL regular season most valuable player award every season.
Kucherov was awarded the Hart Trophy in 2019. With one game remaining in the regular season, the Russian leads the scoring charts; the 30-year-old forward has 142 points (43 goals and 99 assists). Kucherov’s closest pursuer, Canadian Nathan MacKinnon from Colorado, scored 138 (51+87) points.
— Kucherov earned the Hart Trophy based on the results of the current season. He deserves a Hart Trophy every season. Nikita has earned over 100 points for many seasons now – that’s a fabulous number! It’s great that Kucherov gives food for thought, that a Russian does this, ”Tereshchenko is quoted in the Championship.
Tampa will host the Toronto Maple Leafs in the final game of the regular season on April 17.
