Attack “Motorist” Anatoly Golychev said his team was capable of reaching the Gagarin Cup final.
Monday “Metallurgist” defeated Yekaterinburg Avtomobilist in the seventh match of the Fonbet KHL Championship semifinals (3:2) and reached the final of the Gagarin Cup, where they will meet Yaroslavl Lokomotiv.
— What did Avtomobilist miss in this match?
— Confidence in realizing opportunities. It was obvious they were hitting, and some of us were. People wanted to jump in over their heads and stopped doing what brought results. By the time they realized it, it was already too late. They could have equalized, but it didn’t work. Thank you to the opponent in the series, to the fans for their support and to all the members of our team, staff, management and coaching. Everyone gave everything, everyone fought, but unfortunately, it’s hockey, it happens. Once again we gained experience, although I think we could have moved on and flown to Yaroslavl (for the final). Good luck Magnitogorsk, thanks for the series.
—What will happen to the team next?
“Now they’re going to bring us together and say, ‘Thank you for the season.’ They will announce who is staying and who is not. The experience we gained is something that a lot of people remember, just like last year’s playoffs. During the first two rounds, no one believed in us. But in this series, sometimes we weren’t the team we were in those rounds, we were the team we were during the season. If they worked the same way with just one mechanism, it would be completely different. It’s devastated now, but I know the city is in turmoil. I’m sure many people will love hockey in Yekaterinburg. We have reached a new level.
— An overall successful season?
– Certainly. But they could have done more,” quotes Golyshev, RB Sport.
The Gagarin Cup final series between Metallurg and Lokomotiv begins on April 18 in Magnitogorsk.
