The Detroit Red Wings proved to be stronger than Montreal in the final game of the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
In the first half, the teams exchanged goals, after which the Canadian club took the lead with a difference of two goals. However, Detroit first narrowed the gap, and then Daniel Sprong restored the balance – 3:3. Juraj Slafkovsky restored Montreal’s lead, but the Red Wings mounted a final attack, pulled the goaltender and sent the game to overtime 4 seconds before the end of the third period. As a result, Detroit won in a shootout – 5:4.
The Red Wings finished the season with 91 points and were excluded from the playoffs.
