“There will be a lot of factors at my age.” Crosby to discuss new contract with Pittsburgh this offseason

Captain”Pittsburgh » Sydney Crosby said he would discuss a new contract with the club during the offseason.

The 36-year-old center has one season remaining on a 12-year, $104.4 million contract ($8.7 million average annual salary) he signed on July 1, 2012, and he could become an agent free without restriction after next season.

“I’m going to talk to the general manager (Kyle Dubas). Let’s see. Obviously there will be a lot of factors at my age. But I always evaluate my game based on what it is, not based on my age,” Crosby said according to the league press service.

The Penguins missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight season and third time since Crosby was selected first overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Crosby won the Stanley Cup three times (2009, 2016, 2017) with 1,596 points (592 goals, 1,004 assists) in 1,272 NHL games, ranking 10th in league history and second in the history of the Penguins behind Mario Lemieux (1723 points).

Crosby is a two-time winner of the Hart Trophy (2007, 2014), the Art Ross Trophy (2007, 2014), the Maurice Richard Trophy (2010, 2017) and the Conn Smythe Trophy (2016, 2017). He has received the Ted Lindsay Award three times (2007, 2013, 2014), given annually to the NHL’s most outstanding player, as voted on by members of the NHL Players’ Association.
