There was a lack of work with Russian hockey field players; in such legendary schools as CSKA, Dynamo, Spartak, real stars have not appeared for a long time, former head coach of the Russian national team Vladimir Pluschev told .
On Tuesday, Florida’s Russian goalie Sergei Bobrovsky became one of the heroes of the NHL playoff game against Tampa. Florida won 3-2 (OT) to take a 2-0 series lead. With the score 2:2, Bobrovsky parried a shot from Tampa defender Matt Dumba in front of his own goal. The spectacular rescue episode was widely broadcast on social networks abroad.
— How do you evaluate Bobrovsky’s performance in the last game against Tampa?
– Bobrovsky is a great guy, of course. In general, we have a lot of excellent goalkeepers who grew up without any “Red Machine” system, but thanks to the work, for example, of enthusiasts like Vitaly Georgievich Erfilov, who coached Tretyak, Myshkin and many others. I wish we had more of these types of enthusiasts working with field hockey players.
There was a time when we had a lot of great strikers, but not good goalkeepers. Life forced me to become a goalkeeper. I remember that I was the first head coach to invite a goalkeeper coach to the Russian national team. Everyone laughed at me asking why it was necessary. And then it took root in the clubs, everyone began to understand that the goalkeeper has a special role in the team, special people should work with goalkeepers.
We have lost work with the field actors now. Russian hockey so far has not had any bright stars, and if interesting young guys appear, they are outside the system. In other words, they do not appear in clubs where the material conditions and infrastructure are excellent. Usually they come from the hinterland, where there was a skating rink, a place in the yard where a guy played. I don’t remember that recently stars appeared in such a legendary school as CSKA, Dynamo, Spartak or SKA – where the infrastructure is simply crazy.
It turns out that the slogan “the more rinks, the more stars” does not work. Hockey players themselves are not brought up on ice rinks, they are brought up by coaches,” Pliushchev told .
