President of the Russian Hockey Federation (RFH) Vladislav Tretiak told that Magnitogorsk “Metallurgist” and Yaroslavl “Locomotive” set an example for the good development of clubs.
On Wednesday, Metallurg defeated Lokomotiv (2:1) in the fourth match of the last playoff series of the Fonbet KHL championship and won the Gagarin Cup.
— The victory in Magnitogorsk is a plus for all of our hockey. Because the club sets an example of good development. Quality work with young people. Trust your students. This approach arouses sympathy and the FHR welcomes it. So we are happy that Metallurg won. Please note that foreign players were not necessary to win the Gagarin Cup; Russian players became the main characters.
Examples of how Metallurg works with young people. Forwards Silantiev and Kantserov played at the KHL level for the first year and, already in the playoffs, immediately established themselves in the top three and progressed incredibly. Silantiev generally became the second highest scorer in the playoffs.
And in the regular season, Yurov, Metallurg’s top scorer, did his best. He plays center forward, a role in shortage. It’s great that Magnitka turns gifted players into real stars – this is a plus for the entire championship, for all of our hockey.
Let’s not offend Lokomotiv. They also work systematically, have played for many years with graduates of their children’s school and trust young people. Yes, this year we were unlucky in the final, we could not play effectively in attack, Magnitogorsk was stronger. But “Lokomotiv” deservedly reached the final; his approach to the development of Russian hockey players also attracts us,” Tretiak told .
Metallurg became three times winner of the Gagarin Cup. Previously, the Magnitogorsk club won in the 2013/14 and 2015/16 seasons. In terms of the number of trophies, Metallurg is equal to Ak Bars (2009, 2010, 2018) and CSKA (2019, 2022, 2023).
