Moscow CSKA thanked Sergei Fedorov for his work as head coach of the team.

Under Fedorov’s leadership, CSKA won two Gagarin Cups – in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. During the ongoing KHL playoffs, the army team was eliminated in the first round by Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (1-4). Fedorov was fired from the post of head coach of CSKA, and Ilya Vorobyov replaced him in this position.

— Sergei Viktorovich led CSKA before the 2021/22 season. His debut as head coach turned out to be triumphant: he managed to win the Gagarin Cup and return the team to the title of champion of Russia. At the end of this season, Fedorov deservedly received the award for the best coach in the KHL. The 2022/23 season has become even more unique for CSKA. The military club not only defended its championship title by winning its third Gagarin Cup, but also set a record by playing 26 of the maximum possible 27 matches in the playoffs. For the second time in a row, Fedorov was recognized as the strongest coach in the league.

Under the leadership of Sergei Viktorovich, CSKA won many great victories, showed true champion character in decisive matches, earned the nickname “Kings of the seventh match” and gave the brightest emotions to the army of red and blue supporters. In addition, Sergei Viktorovich managed to work with the Russian national team. In 2022, as a member of the coaching staff, he helped our national team win silver medals at the 2022 Olympics. The same year, he was inducted into the National Hockey Hall of Fame.

We thank Sergei Viktorovich for his excellent work and enormous contribution to the continuation of the victorious traditions of the military club! – says the statement.

The champion of the current KHL season was Metallurg Magnitogorsk, who defeated Yaroslavl Lokomotiv in the final series (4-0).
