Khristich’s team upset the opponent only once in the first period, but won each subsequent period with a big score
Ukrainian national hockey team got off to a strong start on World Championship 2024 V Division IBin the first round match, defeating Estonia – 8:0.
At first, nothing foreshadowed such a gap. The Estonians could even open the scoring, but a powerfully fired puck hit the crossbar of Bogdan Dyachenko’s goal. Soon the blue-yellows finally seized the initiative and opened the scoring after Alexander Peresunko’s mid-range shot.
The game was made in the first minutes of the second period, when Dmitry Khristich’s team scored three quick goals. In particular, Stanislav Sadovikov scored his debut goal for the national team.
What happened next was a matter of technique. In the third period, the Ukrainians hit the opponent’s goal four more times with courage. Andrey Deniskin scored a double. Peresunko, Evgeny Ratushny and Alexey Yanishevsky each scored two assists.
Thanks to the difference in goals and goals conceded, Ukraine immediately topped the standings. In the first round, the teams of China and Lithuania also won (both 3:0).
Tomorrow, April 28, Khristich’s team will play against the Netherlands. Starts at 19:30.
