Lokomotiv did not score enough goals in the Gagarin Cup final with Metallurg – Artyukhin

Former SKA hockey player Yevgeny Artiukhin believes that “Locomotive” dropped the implementation during the playoff finals of the Fonbet KHL Championship with “Metallurgist” .

On Wednesday, Metallurg defeated Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (2:1) in the fourth game of the Fonbet KHL Championship playoff final and won the Gagarin Cup (4-0 in the series). The Yaroslavl team scored a total of three goals in four matches.

— What was Lokomotiv missing to hang on to the series?

— There weren’t enough goals (laughs), so to speak. You can’t win with just one goal. It was in the attack that this creativity was not present. We created few chances, threatened little, took few shots, put little pressure on the goalkeeper and put little strain on the defense. And, in principle, they were not as active as in other series. I didn’t see the same pressure that they showed, I didn’t see the same speed,” Artyukhin quoted Championship as saying.

Metallurg became three-time winner of the Gagarin Cup; the Magnitogorsk club had already won it in the 2013/14 and 2015/16 seasons. In terms of the number of trophies, Metallurg is equal to Ak Bars (2009, 2010, 2018) and CSKA (2019, 2022, 2023).
