Captain Ukrainian national hockey team Igor Merezhko voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) World Cup 2024 V Division IB. He also received an award best defender tournament.
Merezhko took part in all five matches of his team at the tournament in Lithuania, which our team triumphantly won, scoring five major victories with a total difference of 31:2.
Igor became the second most productive player in the division, scoring 4 goals and giving five assists (two of them in the fifth round match against Lithuania – 4:1). In the overall standings, he lost only to compatriot Alexander Peresunko (5+6).
The best goalkeeper of the 2024 World Cup in the mentioned division was recognized as the goalkeeper of the Lithuanian national team Mantas Armalis. The best forward was Estonian Robert Rooba, the second sniper in the division (after Peresunko) in terms of additional indicators – 5+3.
Merezhko celebrated his 26th birthday (April 30) during the 2024 World Cup. He plays for HC Spisska, with whom he became the vice-champion of Slovakia at the end of the 2023/24 season. Igor was recognized as the best hockey player in Ukraine based on the results of 2023.
Let us remind you that thanks to today’s victory over Lithuania, Dmitry Khristich’s team won Division IB and for the first time since 2017 received the right to participate in Division IA.
