Traktor said that before Benoit Grou’s appointment they received recommendations from foreign clubs

General manager “Tractors » Alexey Volkov said the Chelyabinsk club received positive recommendations from foreign clubs before appointing the Canadian Benoît Grou for the position of head coach.

Traktor announced the appointment of Gru on Monday, replacing Russian Alexei Zavarukhin. The agreement with the 56-year-old specialist lasts two seasons.

— There were several specialists among the candidates for the position, but due to a combination of factors, the choice fell in favor of Benoît. Alexey Zavarukhin was offered to stay in the club system and lead Chelmet.

We have received many positive recommendations from current players who have worked with Gru, Canadian Hockey Federation officials and general managers of foreign clubs. They said he was a great specialist in the field of player development, attentive to details, tactically strong and able to motivate hockey players. In addition, we are impressed by his human qualities and his desire to try his hand at the KHL. Before his appointment, Benoit presented us with his vision of the Traktor game model and it became clear that with him the team would be even more competitive in the fight for the main league trophy.

For the past seven years, the mentor has worked in the Tampa Bay system and had a direct connection to winning two Stanley Cups as a coach who coached the main team’s reserves. And of course, we must not forget that Grou is the creator of the gold medals of the Canadian youth team, which won the World Championships in 2015. In the coming days, Benoit will begin to form his team of coaches, where he has complete carte blanche,” Volkov said on the club’s website.

The Chelyabinsk club lost to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the semi-finals of the KHL playoffs with a score of 0-4.
