Athletistic / Hockey. Finnish politician Tampere Mayor Kalervo Kummola criticized the IIHF rankings. In it, despite the exclusion from participation in international competitions, the Russian team takes second place.

“In the last three years of my work as vice-president of the IIHF, Russia won a bronze medal. I don’t know what is happening there now, but it all seems so ridiculous that “it is better to abolish this classification completely.” Ilta-Sanomat quotes Kummola as saying.

Kalervo Kummola served as vice-president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) from 2003 to 2021. He is known for his constant attacks against Russia.

  • In the Czech Republic, the IIHF was criticized for its attitude towards Russia

The Russian national team after the 2024 World Cup in the Czech Republic moved from third to second place in the IIHF rankings. This happened thanks to the defeat of the Finnish team in the quarterfinals of the world championship. Although Russia has not participated in tournaments under the auspices of the IIHF since March 2022, its ranking has been frozen, allowing the Russians to remain there as high as possible. Today, Russia, with 4,065 points, is in second place in the ranking, followed by Finland (3,955).
