Athletistic / Hockey. Legendary Swedish goaltender Henrik Lundqvist shared his opinion on New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin’s performance in the current Stanley Cup. Lundqvist is a Cops legend and is considered the best goalkeeper in the history of the New York franchise.

“In the playoffs, you have to accept everything: the importance of the moment, the pressure and the fact that you’re playing with teams that are out for your blood. Shesterkin is number one. And you can see Igor enjoys that. He plays a big role in the series with “Florida” and shows an incredible level of play. It’s interesting to watch him.

What’s most impressive about the playoffs is Shesterkin’s ability to step up when the team needs him most, and also show up in tight overtime games. There were a few games, for example, in the series with Carolina, where the Rangers missed a couple of early goals, but after that Igor locked the doors and gave the guys a chance to win. Now Shesterkin looks really confident,” Lundqvist was quoted as saying by the NHL press service.

Henrik Lundqvist is the latest goaltender to lead the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final. This happened in 2014. However, the trophy later went to the Los Angeles Kings.

In the 2024 Stanley Cup, Igor Shesterkin played 13 games, reflecting 92.2% of shots with an average reliability coefficient of 2.33. The Rangers currently lead the Eastern Conference Finals series with the Florida Panthers with a score of 2-1.
