CEO of Avangard Anton Kurianov will join the team’s coaching staff in the 2024/25 season, the club’s press service reports.
Kuryanov will be responsible for power play actions and working with forwards.
— Even during the last playoffs, the general manager actively helped the technical staff both during game preparation and during games. Yes, this format seems unusual. But we are convinced that not all decisions should fit into traditional patterns that seem correct.
Sport is a territory of creative solutions; there is not and cannot be any dogma to follow. On the contrary, the search for new paths of development can help find the shortest path to victory. The general director will of course continue to exercise his direct responsibilities,” said club general director German Chistyakov.
Avangard head coach Sergei Zvyagin noted that he only sees advantages in working with Kuryanov.
— We were in contact all the time during the season and during the playoffs, his vision, skills and advice helped the team a lot. Kuryanov is known and respected by the players, his experience as a hockey player and coach is in high demand. When hockey players understand that what the coach is proposing actually works, they have confidence, and that’s when this “chemistry” is created in the locker room and on the bench. I have no doubt that Kuryanov will strengthen the Avangard coaching team,” Zvyagin added.
Last season “Avant-garde” reached the second round of the Gagarin Cup, where they lost in the series against Lokomotiv (1–4).
