Russian goalkeeper “Toronto” Ilia Samsonov next season will not play for this team, according to the authors of the Canadian portal Sportsnet.
The 27-year-old Russian, whose contract with the Maple Leafs runs until the summer of 2024, will most likely continue his career in another club, the publication writes.
— A few shaky seasons leave Samsonov behind, the Maple Leafs are looking in a different direction. Samsonov’s opportunity to become the team’s main goalkeeper is probably lost, at least for the moment, but he can find his place in another club, the document states.
Samsonov has been playing for Toronto since 2022; earlier in the NHL he also played for Washington. Last season, the Russian played 45 matches, including the playoffs, conceding more than three goals per game and reflecting less than 90% of shots.
