Kozlov explained why he left Bob Hartley’s seat ahead of the Avangard Championship season

Coach Vyacheslav Kozlov in an interview with , he told how the decision to leave “Avant-garde” two years ago.

Kozlov worked as a coach at the Omsk club from 2019 to 2020. In the 2020/21 season, along with Igor Ulanov and Nikolai Mishin, the specialist was part of Alexei Kovalev’s headquarters in the Chinese Kunlun.

“I know you spoke of Bob Hartley with great respect. Why didn’t they stay at Avangard headquarters? Now we would be the owner of the Gagarin Cup, and it would make sense to work as much as possible with such a specialist.

– In 2020, the entire technical staff was offered to extend the contracts before the start of the playoffs. Besides, it was Hartley’s initiative. Bob is a wise man who cares about his coaching staff. He then said the following: “We can win the Gagarin Cup, but we can also lose in the first round. Therefore, it is important to me that you are all signed now. To be sure.’ And I wasn’t ready to sign a new contract at that time. I wanted to go home first, talk to my family, and then make a decision. Even then, I had an offer from Riga – to become the head coach there. I also talked to Bob about it, I consulted with him.

He answered you?

– I did not dissuade, but I warned against certain things. He knows Riga well, worked for five years as a coach of the Latvian modular. He said: “Keep in mind that there are exercise bikes that Balderis used to train on as well. The practice rink is small, and the home games are played at the Olympique…” He gave a lot of advice. With that, we parted ways, having lost in the first round. But we remained friends and we still talk to this day.
