North American agent Dan Milstein spoke to about how the Belarusian defender is approaching the draft Artem Levchunov .
These days, Levshunov works at Florida State’s newcomer training camp, hosted by Milstein. Last season, the 18-year-old defenseman scored 42 points (13 goals, 29 assists) in 62 regular season games, adding 1 point (0 goals, 1 assist) in three playoff games for the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL).
— Has it helped Levshunov that he has been performing in North America for the past two years?
“We have generally taken an unprecedented path. Artem spent his first season in the USHL, but outgrew the league. And we made the decision for his development, so that he would go to the University of Michigan and play in the NCAA, and even 24-year-old guys were playing there. At the same time, Levshunov is having a magnificent season. At the same time, he had good grades. Artem communicates fluently in English with all representatives of the NHL.
— Is it true that during the interview Levshunov was asked what his rating was in the taxi ordering application?
— We know that in NHL clubs, they can ask you anything during an interview. At the same time, Artem replied that he does not use a taxi, but rides a bicycle everywhere, even in winter. That’s right: When he got to the University of Michigan, the first thing we did was buy him a used bike. And he moves on it, while training his legs.
— Is it true that Levshunov can be chosen before anyone else in the history of Belarusian hockey?
— Ruslan Salei’s highest pick so far was in 1996, when Anaheim took him ninth overall. I don’t want to make any guesses, but Levshunov has every chance of breaking this record,” Milshtein told .
The NHL Draft will take place June 28-29 in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to scouts, Levshunov could be selected second in the draft.
