Andrei Nazarov proposed creating a KHL club in the DPRK

Russian coach Andrei Nazarov proposed establishing a Kontinental Hockey League club in the DPRK to expand the tournament to the East.

Chinese club Kunlun Red Star has been playing in the KHL since 2016, but in recent seasons the team has played home games in the Moscow region.

— As the Stanley Cup final continues in North America, our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin received a warm welcome in the DPRK. In addition, the national leaders of Russia and the DPRK reached an agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. I believe that in the DPRK it is possible to create a strong club at the KHL level in the future.

The league must expand to the East. We already have teams from our Chinese and Kazakh friends, so why not continue this trend. Right now we see who our friend is and who we can count on in difficult times,” Nazarov said as quoted by “Championship”.

Nazarov coached Chelyabinsk Traktor, Vityaz Moscow Region, Cherepovets Severstal, Kazakhstan Barys, St. Petersburg SKA, Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik and Sochi.
