Athletistic / Hockey. Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dmitry Orlov spoke about Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin’s pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s scoring record in NHL regular season games. The 38-year-old Russian is now 41 shots behind the Canadian.

“It’s clear that everyone is waiting for Gretzky’s record to fall, just like Sasha himself is one of the best NHL scorers of all time, his stats show it all, I wish him luck, he will know beat those of Gretzky. It’s not for me to evaluate his game “Sasha himself understands how he played and how he plays, he knows what he needs to do for certain results that he wants to achieve. ” said Orlov, as quoted by Soviet Sport.

Alexander Ovechkin scored 853 goals during his career in regular NHL championships. He is now 41 goals away from Gretzky’s record (894). The 38-year-old Russian’s contract with the Washington Capitals is valid for two more seasons.

Dmitry Orlov played for Washington from 2011 to 2023. In 2018, he helped the Capitals win the Stanley Cup.
