Athletistic / Hockey. Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Sergei Berezin has died. The Russian was just 52 years old.
Berezin was selected by Toronto in the 10th round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, 256th overall. In the North American League, the Russian managed to play for Toronto, Phoenix Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks and Washington.
Berezin’s best season came in the 1998/1999 campaign, when the Russian played 76 matches for Toronto and scored 59 points, scoring 37 goals and making 22 assists. That year, he helped the Maple Leafs reach the Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Final.
Sergei Berezin competed as a member of the Russian national team at the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer and the 1996 World Cup.
