Sushinsky called McDavid’s Conn Smythe Trophy a ‘sweet pill’ after Stanley Cup final loss

World champion Maxim Sushinsky believes the Conn Smythe Trophy slightly eased the Edmonton Oilers forward’s negative emotions Connor McDavid after losing the Stanley Cup final.

On Monday, Florida defeated Edmonton at home in the seventh game of the Stanley Cup Final with a score of 2:1 and won the trophy for the first time in its history. After the playoffs, McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded annually to the best player in the NHL playoffs.

— What do you think about the fact that the Conn Smythe Trophy went to McDavid and not to Bobrovsky?

— It’s clear that McDavid had a great time in the playoffs, he won the most of all personal awards. That’s why it’s such a sweet pill to lose in the final. But, of course, Bobrovsky also deserves the MVP title,” Sushinsky said, as quoted by Championship.

Last season, McDavid scored 132 points (32+100) in 76 NHL regular season games and also recorded 42 points (8+34) in 25 playoff games.
