As learned, the Russian hockey player Nikita Zadorov will find a new NHL team on July 1, when free agency opens.
Vancouver general manager Patrick Alvin said Friday that Zadorov would “test the free-agent market.” The Russian is likely to leave the Canucks.
“Zadorov has a lot of options on the free agent market, and he will decide on the new team on July 1,” a source said.
Last season, Zadorov was making $3.75 million per year, but he now expects a salary of $5 million or more.
Last season, the Russian reached the semi-finals of the NHL Western Conference playoffs with Vancouver, where the team lost to Edmonton in the series (3-4). In the playoffs, Zadorov appeared in 13 matches in which he recorded four goals and four assists. Previously in the league, the defenseman played for Buffalo, Colorado and Calgary.
