Michigan State Quarterback Artem Levchunov told that Belarusian hockey is now booming.
In the 2024 NHL Rookie Draft, the Belarusian defenseman was selected second overall by the Chicago Blackhawks.
— What do you attribute the rise of Belarusian hockey to in recent years?
— I agree that our hockey has grown significantly. We have a lot of good players and I think there will be more and more Belarusians in the squad. And to get as many of us as possible playing in the NHL.
— Have you spoken with Dmitry Kvartalnov, who is now heading the Belarusian hockey vertical? You were invited to Dynamo Minsk.
“I’ve never spoken to him, to be honest.”
— Are you watching the series of matches between Russia and Belarus?
– Yes, sometimes I watch and monitor the results. When there is time, of course. It is good that these matches are sold out in Minsk. People are interested. I will not say that these series are not comparable to the World Championships or the Olympics. It is completely different. But it is better to play and develop than to do nothing.
— Do you dream that Belarus can one day reach the top 8 and that your team will be invited to the World Cup?
– Yes why not? You have to work and everything is possible. If we all work together, our country will become a great hockey power,” Levshunov told .
Last season, Levshunov, 18, played for Michigan State (NCAA), where he scored 35 points (9+26) in 38 games.
