Athletistic / Hockey. Washington Capitals rookie defenseman Jacob Chickran spoke about his scoring ability and also shared his emotions about becoming a teammate of Alexander Ovechkin. The 26-year-old Canadian was traded from the Ottawa Senators on July 1.

“Obviously, scoring is a big part of my game. I was a forward growing up, so I’ve always had an offensive instinct, and that’s what I value. I’m excited to bring that to the Washington game and be around the guys.” Among them, as I said earlier, is perhaps the greatest sniper of all time (speaking of Ovechkin. – Note Athletistic) and players who have celebrated many goals in the past. It seems to me that the Capitals did not have enough last season to compete for the top spots. I really hope I can bring something to the Caps game and I am looking forward to seeing what happens. I hope to make my own contribution and help the team in that aspect,” Chikran quotes The Hockey News as saying.

  • Another chance for Ovechkin. Washington tried to fight for the Stanley Cup

In the Jacob Chickran trade, Washington gave Ottawa defenseman Nick Jensen and a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. In the 2023/24 season, Chickran played 82 NHL regular-season games and scored 41 points (14 goals, 27 assists) on efficiency. Chickran’s $4.6 million contract runs for one more season.
