Russian hockey club kicked out of Asian league for political reasons

Russian hockey club “Sakhalin” has been suspended from participation in the 2022/23 Asian Hockey League (AHL) season due to the political situation, reported on the VKontakte club page .

The decision was made Aug. 2 at a meeting of the American Hockey League, which was held by videoconference.

– Following the meeting, the league management, in agreement with the teams, decided to withdraw Russian athletes from participation in the tournament for the 2022/23 season with the mention “due to the political situation”, indicates the message.

Sakhalin was the only Russian member of the AHL.
