Russian goalkeeper for NHD Florida Panthers Sergei Bobrovsky told that it is important for him to fly to Russia every year.
Bobrovsky graduated from Novokuznetsk Metallurg. In Russia, he played for a Novokuznetsk club and SKA St. Petersburg when a lockout was declared in the NHL. The 35-year-old goalie has played for Florida for the past five years. Last season, he won the Stanley Cup with the Panthers.
— It is important for you to come to Russia every year, what are your plans for the summer?
— Yes, it is important for me to fly to my homeland every year. Russia is my home.
— Why did you choose St. Petersburg as your permanent residence in Russia, if I am not mistaken? Why not Moscow, for example?
— During the lockout season, I played for SKA and we fell in love with this city. It seems to me that during the entire time spent with SKA, there was not a single negative moment. I always remember this period of my life with a smile and nostalgia.
— What did SKA bring you in your career? You didn’t stay there very long, but that season you won your first Vezina.
— I have good associations with the SKA club. Indeed, largely thanks to SKA, I was able to play good matches for Columbus and win the Vezina Trophy. We always communicate and, as far as possible, I try to train with young goalkeepers from the club’s system,” Bobrovsky told .
Bobrovsky played 24 games in the last NHL playoffs, winning 16 games with a 2.32 save percentage and 90.6% save percentage. He won the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career.
