Russia’s top coach Vladimir Krikunov believes that the move to Sochi will benefit defender Maxim Fedotov and forward Ilya Fedotov.
On Thursday, the Fedotov brothers moved from SKA St. Petersburg to Sochi. The players’ bilateral contracts run until May 31, 2027.
— SKA did the right thing by letting the Fedotov brothers go to Sochi. At the beginning of last season, Ilya had a great chance to gain a foothold in the team, but, unfortunately, he failed to take advantage of it. Maxim regularly got playing time all year, but he did not achieve it without productive mistakes, including in the playoffs. It is clear that with the arrival of Nikita Zaitsev, it will be difficult for Maxim to fight for a place in the first or second pair, it is difficult to count on a lot of time on the ice.
In such a situation, moving to Sochi opens up new opportunities for the brothers: it is time for them to prove themselves as leaders, take full responsibility for the result and lead the team.
Another advantage is the head coach of Sochi, Sergei Zubov. Last season, he was part of the SKA staff and worked with Maxim as a defensive coach. Sergei Alexandrovich knows all the Fedotovs’ abilities well and understands how to develop them. In other words, we can count on the progress of Maxim and Ilya to continue.
“If the brothers manage to become leaders in Sochi, then they can easily return to SKA and become key players in St. Petersburg, as Vasily Glotov did. The Fedotovs should be guided by this example,” Krikunov said in “Championship”.
