Hockey agent Dan Milstein, representing the interests of the Belarusian defender Artem Levchunova said scouts saw similarities between the hockey player and the defenseman Colorado Avalanche Cal Makar .
The 18-year-old Belarusian was selected second overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2024 NHL Draft.
— Our scouts spotted Artyom in his hometown of Zhlobin when he was 13. They called me and said, “We’ve found the next Cale Makar.” We looked at Artyom for a long time and eventually brought him to North America to the USHL. I called Mike Leoni, who at the time was the coach of the USHL Green Bay team, and before that, Mike was a coach in the American national program, where he worked with the best American players. I told him, “I’m sending you a boy, a right-handed offensive defenseman. This is your son that you never had.” A few weeks later, Mike called me back and said, “Artyom can already be drafted in the first round. He’s better looking than Hughes was at his age.”
Artyom has outgrown the USHL and I told him that there was every chance of being drafted second. “Chicago looked at Demidov and Levshunov until the very end, making a positional choice, ultimately choosing in favor of the defenseman,” Milshtein was quoted as saying by “Championship”.
Last season, the Belarusian hockey player played for Michigan State (NCAA), where he scored 35 points (9+26) in 38 games.
