Athletistic / Hockey. Former KHL defenseman Nikita Shchitov spoke about forward Matvey Michkov’s decision to leave for the NHL. The 19-year-old Russian signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers last week.
“Michkova had a good season in Sochi, scored a lot of points for her age. It seems to me that moving to Philadelphia will allow Matvey to develop. In the coming years, Michkov will be able to develop in the “pilots” system and become the leader of this club. It is clear that everything does not happen at once. Michkov still needs to get stronger. So they will create all the conditions for him to become the leader of the team and help him get into the fight for the Stanley Cup.
Michkov has good prospects, he is a big and talented forward. But I heard that he has character problems. He is a young guy. He will get used to it and adapt to the realities of the NHL. I think Michkov will succeed in the NHL. The main thing is that he is supported by the coaching staff and his teammates. Matvey has good prospects abroad, RB Sport quoted Shchitov as saying.
Matvey Michkov was selected seventh overall by Philadelphia in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. In the 2023/24 KHL season, the forward played for Sochi on loan from SKA. In 47 games, the 19-year-old Russian scored 41 (19+22) points using the goal+assist system.
