Athletistic / Hockey. Washington Capitals new general manager Chris Patrick says he’s not in favor of a wholesale restructuring of NHL teams. Patrick replaces Brian McLellan, who takes over as the Capitals’ president of hockey operations.
“My goal is to be competitive. I’m not one of those who likes to lose. I truly believe that Washington can end the Alexander Ovechkin era with a competitive team.
“I think we’ve already made a statement with what we’ve done this summer. It’s easy for people to say, ‘Your superstars are getting old. It’s time to rebuild and you’ve got to blow up the transfer market and start all over again.’ But in reality, it can be a lot harder than it looks from the outside,” Patrick was quoted as saying by Washington’s press service.
Alexander Ovechkin has scored 65 effective actions in 79 games of the 2023/2024 NHL regular season – he has scored 31 goals and made 34 assists. In total, he has scored 853 goals and 697 assists during his NHL career.
Ovechkin’s contract with Washington lasts two more seasons. The 38-year-old Russian earns $9.5 million per year in the capital camp. Ovi has been playing in the American capital since the fall of 2005.
