host Dmitry Fedorov, a former coach of Chaika MHC, said that a charity match between KHL and NHL stars could change the attitude towards hockey throughout Russia.
A charity match with the participation of KHL and NHL stars will take place on July 20 on the ice of CSKA Arena. channel will broadcast the match live, starting at 2:30 p.m.
— Any event with full stands is necessary. I remember with nostalgia the Spartak Cup in the 90s, when a team of Russian stars consisting of NHL hockey players played in Sokolniki. There was always a full stadium there, it was a special event. It’s the same now. The fact that there are stars of the first magnitude is great, even for a city like Moscow, which hosts a lot of different events. Of course, the main question is whether the guys will play in full contact, because at the Spartak Cup there was combat hockey with small fights. But I don’t want such an event to look like a match of stars.
— Do you think a charity match between KHL and NHL stars should take place every year?
— We need to see how the first such match will go and we need to understand how difficult such an event is to organize. If there is noise, the participants like it and it becomes clear that this is not a one-time event, then, of course, it should be held every year. This is propaganda for hockey. At one time there was a sad picture after the coronavirus, when almost no one went anywhere, there were restrictions, people began to have other pleasures in everyday life. The last season was incredibly well attended and a new wave of interest in hockey is being felt. Such summer events will be useful and can change the attitude towards hockey throughout the country and in relation to the audience that watches matches from time to time and reacts to the names, Fedorov told .
Most of the proceeds from the match will be donated to charitable foundations organized by the hockey players and the event’s partners.
