Athletistic / Hockey. Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod plans to hold a regular season KHL match outdoors. The information about this was confirmed by the general director of the “Automobile Plant” Alexander Kharlamov.
“We do not abandon the idea of playing in a football stadium. At the moment, we plan to hold such a match on January 4 at the Nizhny Novgorod Arena stadium. Now hockey and football clubs, the government of Nizhny Novgorod. The region are working together. We were intrigued by this issue in the spring, because it is not easy, but I would like the event itself to be held at a decent level. Preparations are already underway.
“We have coordinated this with the KHL according to the schedule. This is a fairly large-scale undertaking, which requires a serious approach from all parties, and the event itself is not cheap. But we have approval, desire and understanding of how to implement all this. The main thing is that there is support from the governor at all levels,” Kharlamov was quoted as saying by TASS.
In the fall of 2023, Torpedo approached the KHL leadership with a proposal to hold an away match with Dynamo Minsk on January 7. However, such a meeting did not take place at that time, as the organizers had little time to prepare for it.
The new KHL season will start on September 3. In the 2023/2024 season, Torpedo lost to SKA in the first round of the 2024 Gagarin Cup with a score of 1-4 in the series.
