Athletistic / Hockey. The Hockey Federation of Ukraine (HFU) has issued a statement after Vyacheslav Zavalnyuk was appointed to the coaching staff of Nizhny Novgorod “Chaika”. A 49-year-old Ukrainian from the Northern Military District has agreed to work in Russia.
The FHU press service called Zavalnyuk a “mankurt and a traitor” and called his decision to work in Russia a shame. The organization has already started proceedings to deprive Vyacheslav Dmitrievich of all sports and state titles.
Vyacheslav Zavalnyuk was born in kyiv. At the beginning of his career he played for ShVSM and Sokol. He spent almost his entire hockey career in Russia. In 2007 he became the Russian champion as part of Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
Zavalnyuk played for the Ukrainian national team from 1999 to 2007. He participated in the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City (USA). In 2008, Vyacheslav was awarded the Order of Merit, III degree.
