Athletistic/Hockey. Former head coach of the Russian national team Vladimir Plyushchev expressed the opinion that the independence of the KHL could destroy Russian hockey.

— I have been closely following the dramatic events in Russian hockey. Honestly, I am depressed by our illiteracy and desire to destroy. I am disappointed that we cannot assess the consequences of our decisions, even one or two steps forward, and that the press reaction is slow and superficial.

We are talking about the KHL leaving the IIHF jurisdiction. This event could lead to the destruction of the entire national hockey, not in the long term, but in the near future.

I am not talking about the level of management in the KHL, which is probably the lowest in the history of the league. I am not talking about the paradoxes when we seem to be fleeing Europe, but we write our names in the language of the “white master”. I am not talking about blindly copying the NHL pre-season, which destroys the youth training system. These points can at least be discussed.

Now I am talking about the main consequence of the break with the IIHF. Please understand that when we return to the world stage, the IIHF will automatically not allow all players from the KHL-MHL system to participate in the World Championships, Olympic Games and Eurotours. This applies to all tournaments – from club to national, from youth to adult.

And it will be a colossal failure, invented by us out of the blue,” Plyushchev told Russia-Hockey.ru.
