Athletistic / Hockey. Avangard Omsk defender Darren Dietz spoke about CSKA’s failure in the last KHL season. The army team lost to Lokomotiv (1-4 in the series) in the first round of the 2024 Gagarin Cup.
“It took me several months to understand this. It’s not that we didn’t do something, it’s just that we added other clubs. We really thought we were going to prepare for the playoffs, we understood that we had spent the entire regular season not at our level. But already in the first round we got to Lokomotiv… We just couldn’t get past them, but then we thought we were back. and then they beat us for real. Turn the tide of the matches, score on time, survive in the minority. These are all moments that did not play in our favor, as was the case in previous seasons,” Dietz said according to the Championship.
In the 2023/2024 KHL regular season, Daren Dietz played 55 matches, scoring eight goals and making 14 assists. In the Gagarin Cup, the 30-year-old defender scored one goal in five matches.
Lokomotiv reached the KHL playoff final, where they lost to Metallurg Magnitogorsk with a score of 0-4 in the series.
