Athletistic / Hockey. Two-time Olympic hockey champion Alexander Kozhevnikov appreciated the KHL’s decision to leave the influence of the IIHF. He also compared it to the behavior of the NHL.

“It would be a big mistake to compare the NHL and the KHL. In North America, people have been building their league for over a century, and in the last few decades, they have been dictating the rules of world hockey, which they are breaking. Everyone is on their knees, especially with the Olympics.

In Russian hockey, unfortunately, the situation is still completely different. In the early years of the KHL, we had Napoleonic plans, but in the second decade, everything is much more modest and the quality of hockey is frankly mediocre.

What comparisons with the NHL can we talk about? Abroad, everyone is running on the attack, but here, even in the final, the two best clubs score three goals per game. In the NHL, the more games, the higher the profits; in our country, the more games, the higher the losses. But despite all this, the NHL does not send the IIHF, it cooperates. But now the KHL has decided to break everything at once,” Kozhevnikov was quoted as saying by Russia-Hockey.ru.

On July 9, the KHL sent a letter to the FHR with a proposal to terminate the agreement on the delegation of rights to host domestic competitions. The League managed to agree with the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation on direct interaction and now intends to gain independence from the FHR and the IIHF. This could result, among other things, from the fact that starting from the 2024/2025 season, KHL clubs will no longer need a transfer card to apply for a new player.
