Russian Captain Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin ranked 54th on ESPN’s list of the best athletes of the 21st century.
On Tuesday, the publication published a list of athletes ranked from 75th to 51st in this ranking. The list also includes footballers Luka Modric (55th), Alexia Putellas (56), Mia Hamm (64), Kylian Mbappe (65), Andres Iniesta (70), Xavi (75), Ronaldo (87), Ronaldinho (94), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (95).
In addition to Ovechkin, the list currently includes Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid (98).
Ovechkin is 38 years old and has played for Washington since 2005. The Russian forward ranks second on the list of the best snipers in NHL history with 853 goals, just behind Canadian Gretzky (894). With the Capitals, the Russian won the Stanley Cup in the 2017/18 season.
