Athletistic / Hockey. Two-time Olympic hockey champion Boris Mikhailov welcomed the KHL’s decision to move away from the influence of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

“This idea is clear to me. In conditions when the IIHF adopts laws against Russian hockey players, it makes no sense to stick to this organization. In Russia, for so many years, the NHL has been praised for not obeying the IIHF and pushing its own line. Let’s try to follow the same path.

“Now there is a great incentive for the KHL: to develop, gain weight and become the second NHL, which allows the IIHF to do almost anything. Here, the FHR has a special role to play. The federation remains under the wing of the IIHF. This means that the KHL is obliged to establish relations with the FHR, which will protect the interests of the Russian national teams,” Mikhailov said according to Russia-Hockey.ru.

On July 9, the KHL sent a letter to the FHR with a proposal to terminate the agreement on the delegation of rights to host domestic competitions. This happened after the KHL was able to agree with the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation on direct interaction, which allows it to gain independence from the FHR and the IIHF.
